Procession Time: 1300 (1 PM); Uniform: White Shirts & Black Pants
North Brevard Funeral Home is honored to announce that we will be receiving and laying to rest Private First Class Willard Hoyt Edwards, a United States Army Soldier who was killed in action during the Korean War, and whose remains have only recently been recovered and identified after more than 75 years.

Private First Class Edwards was born December 2, 1930, in Wise, Virginia, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1950. He served with Company M, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, and was killed in action on December 2, 1950, during the brutal fighting at the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea.

For decades, he was listed among those whose remains were not recovered. Through the tireless efforts of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency and advances in forensic science, he has now been identified and is finally coming home to receive the honor and dignity he earned through his service and sacrifice.

It is our privilege to escort PFC Edwards on his final journey.

📍 Community Visitation and Procession Details:

Date: Friday, February 27, 2026
North Brevard Funeral Home will be open to the family and community from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM for those who wish to quietly pay their respects and be present as we prepare for the procession.

Procession Departure: Approximately 1:00 PM from North Brevard Funeral Home

Interment: Cape Canaveral National Cemetery
Service Time: 1:30 PM

We invite our community to join us in honoring this American hero. Those who wish may show their respect in whatever way feels meaningful — by attending the visitation, standing along the procession route, joining us at the cemetery, displaying flags, or simply pausing to remember his sacrifice.

After more than seven decades, Private First Class Edwards is finally coming home.

Let us come together as a community to ensure he is never forgotten.
All gave some. Some gave all.

His war did not end in 1950. It ends when he is laid to rest with honor among his fellow heroes.

As always, this year’s parade will stroll along the streets of Merritt Island with the float and parade participants starting at Merritt Island High School, heading South on Courtenay Parkway, to turn East onto Merritt Avenue with the parade ending at Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School.
Be sure to get there early to claim your favorite viewing spot, set up your flags and wear your best patriotic gear.
To make things even better, once the parade has ended, the great partners just around the corner at the Veterans Memorial Center will host food trucks and all access admission to the Veteran’s Museum, so bring the kids and get ready for some great red, white, and blue fun.
